The first seven (7) people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year (2009).
- No requests-- it could be anything. It may be a mix CD. It may be a poem.
I may draw or paint something.
I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows?
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch is that if you don't re-post this offer, the bargain is void!

I haven’t updated for a very long while.  Let’s see.  I’ve just been lazier than heck lately.  I got some bad blisters so laid off the 1/2 marathon training for a few days and now I just can’t seem to make myself get back into the grove.  And I’ve only got two weeks so it’s really not the best time to become the laziest person in the universe.  Swanie is of course traning like mad so I'm sure I'll be the weakest link.  I really don't mind walking alone.

I pulled a bunch of stuff for the yard sale.  Hope my car is big enough.  I have a lot of crap around that I never use but never give away either.  Lots of it’s going.

My sister’s been calling lots lately.  She is just totally insane.  I seem to be the only one who’ll say it but she’s off her rocker.  Oh they all agree with me but I get the “well that’s how she is” crap.  LAME – why can’t they just say she’s bonkers?  Some of her “fears”.  Mom’s going to throw up so much from the chemo that she’ll hit her head on the side of the toilet and drown.  Mom says she’s gained weight from the chemo so she’ll go back to eating “all that food with no fat which isn’t good for you because your body needs fat.  That’s why she never looses weight is because she eats all that nonfat stuff.”  She also doesn’t “do” the post office which I have finally figured out means she will not mail anything, her hubbo has to do it.  And of course online banking leads to identity theft.  Oh and a personal favorite – don’t turn your car on with the radio still on.  I’ve never been able to get a clear answer on what will happen if you do but just don’t.  I didn’t talk to her for like 10 years because she just makes me bonkers.  It bothered everyone else but it really didn’t bother me at all.  It was very nice and calm.  I may need to revert back to that.

I’ve made much progress on the reunion front.  Class of 83 (the one before me) didn’t’ get anything set for this summer which would be their 25th.  From what I can figure out the gal who had done the first 4 clearly stated at the last one that she was done.  Someone else was going to have to do it.  Well of course no one bothered.  Except they got all cranky at the gal because she wasn’t doing it.  So bottom line it’s August and nothing got planned.  So one of the guys in their class called me and asked if they could maybe piggy back a couple of events when we have ours next summer.  I said hey we’ve got a huge venue booked let’s just combine em.  I had actually thought of offering this up when the whole why isn’t so and so planning it stuff came up but I didn’t want to really enter the melee.  So any who, Jim, from the other class is going to coordinate getting the word out to his class and I’ll still deal with ours.  He’s also got some great ideas for other activities etc.  And he lives in town which is very helpful.  There's also a lot of crossover between classes, there are at least 10-15 siblings in one or the other and quite a few couples so that'll help.

So if you know any Lassen High grads from Class of 83 or 84 send them to www.lassen83.com or www.lassen84.com .  Hey you never know it is occasionally a small world.  I sent out about 75 post cards yesterday for the addresses I had from the last go round so hopefully people will start checking in.  I have to keep the yearbooks handy because half the time I can’t remember who people are without a photo.  I really am getting senile.

Today is my Dad's favorite holiday.  There's fire and you can blow things up.  My dad was a closet pyro.  Every year we had some sort of fireworks.  One year when they were banned because of fire danger we lit road flares.  Not the same thing really but it was fire.

We'd often go for a picinic to some random place my Dad had found on a forrest service map.  Usually they at least had a creek so we had somewhere to play.  That or we'd go to the lake, Lake Alamanor.  Sometimes Dad had to work so he'd meet us there later or we'd go to the lake then come back into town later.

I miss my Dad.  Especially on days like today that were important to him.  It's not the same.  He was the fun person in my family, besides me of course.  Now I'm left with my Sister and my Mom who generally just don't get it.  We were co-conspiriators and now I'm left conspiring all on my own.

I really wish Madz could have known him.  She would have at least had one involved grandparent.  He would have made her do all the crazy things I had to - spend hundreds of hours at train crossings so he could take photos, listen to Buddy Holly and Bill Haley, then he got into Springseen and Van Halen.  She would have someone to help her with history homework.  And Economics.  She's 12 and has been spared from watching Tora Tora Tora.  Thousands of hours at the library reading every sort of book.  She would have heard endlessly how important it is to Be True to Your School.  Then all the wild stories about various famliy members.  Family was really important.  That and where you were from.  And you'd best be a 49er Faithful or live somewhere else.

When I was an exchange student my dad wrote me letters at least weekly.  Half of them made no sense.  Stuff like "this is a great video" steming from his recent MTV addiction.  Things about work, happenings around town.  When the 49ers won the superbowl my mailbox was full of clippings and bumper stickers.  I'm sure he got 10 extra uclers from it.  I've got his gold 49er jacket.

My godfather said last weekend that my Dad was the only logger he'd heard of that had a subscription to the Economist.  Which was true, that and the Wall Street Journal.

I wish we could have fireworks here, I'd blow something up for my Dad.  I'll just have to settle for a little bbq and watching the fireworks.  Perhaps I'll hoist a Diet Pepsi in his honor.  Maybe light a road flare.

Busy weekend.  I need to shop for camping and get all my gear ready.  It should be a ton of fun.  I had a great time trying out various recipes.  I usually only cook for me, which gets old.  Maddy’s the pickiest eater on the planet.  I think I’m fairly organized at this point so it shouldn’t be too bad.

My training is going well.  I’m almost through week 4.  Unfortunately the shin splints are keeping me from doing the walk/run but I’ve been substituting elliptical and bike so at least I’m keeping at it.  I haven’t lost any weight yet which is frustrating.  I seem to yo-yo the same 3lbs.  But I am down an inch or more in measurements so there is some progress being made.  Only 13 more weeks to go.  My whole goal is to finish and without medical assistance.

Work is quiet and it’s going to be for the next few weeks.  I’ve already run out of things to do to entertain myself.

I booked the Elks Hall for the reunion.  Well I need to send them the contract and the check but we’re on the calendar.  July 18, 2009.  Whew.  That was my biggest downfall last go round, the venue.  Once they’ve cashed my check I’ll put out a hold the date.  I also looked into building a permanent website.  GoDaddy seems to be fairly cheap and has all the tools I need, which are minimal.  I’ll start on that when I get back from camping.

I’m going to work on Maddy’s room.  Or the Black Hole, as she calls it.  It’s such a disaster.  There will probably be a couple of trips to good will out of it at least.

So I’ve started my 25 year high school reunion planning, finally.  It’s not until next summer but for the 20th I had so many problems finding a venue last minute for the 20th so booking a year ahead I should be ok.

There really are only two viable choices.  The Elks Hall or the Indian Casino.  They’re the only two venues with their own staff, liquor license etc.  There are a couple of other possibilities.  The problem is they seem to go in/out of business at a regular rate.  I don’t want to book something and have them tank last minute.  Last time I got the Catholic Hall but then had to do everything piece meal.  Find a caterer, get extra insurance since we would be serving liquor, find someone to clean up after, luckily the Soroptomist ladies do a portable bar thing as a fundraiser and the have a liquor license or I would have had to do that too.  All from 600+ miles away.

And this time at least I’ve got a starting point.  I think for the last one I had like 4 peoples addresses/contact info.  Now at least I’ve got a decent list.  It’s 4 years old at this point but it better than nothing.  And I think, well hope, that there are a few more people that will actually help me this time.  Not that it was a lot of work but tracking people down isn’t the easiest part.

I know class reunions aren’t everyone’s thing.  And I totally get why.  My class is only 184 students.  I think 20 of us started out at Ms. Jackie’s pre-school.  So it’s fun to see people that you’ve known forever.

Last one there were lots of stories about remember when this happened in second grade, stuff like that.  One guy showed Lisa G that he still had lead in his hand from where she stabbed him with a pencil in Third grade.  His wife told him he really needed to get over it already.  But stuff like that is fun.  And to find out what people are doing, where life has taken them.

I got a call from one guy after the last one that he was bummed most of his crowd from High School weren’t there but that he had so much fun catching up with some of the guys that he hadn’t really hung out with since 7th or 8th grade.

And I’ve got the time so it keeps me busy.  Now I just need to find a date before next summer so I’m not a total looser, kidding of course.

Had a really nice weekend.  Lisa was here on Saturday so we went down to the Gaslamp and noodled around.  Then we went over to Coronado and wandered around a bit.  We ended up having drinks at the Hotel Del which was fun.  She flew out on Sunday morning. I just did laundry the rest of the day.

I started watching the second season of Torchwood.  I really liked it.  I’ll have to see if I can find Season I.

Getting ready to drive home on Saturday.  Mom has surgery on Thursday.  My sister will go up for that then I’ll take over on Saturday.  Still not sure which way I’m going.  If the weather’s not good 395 sucks.  But the 5 is so boring.  And 80’s almost just as boring.  I’d rather go feather river or Red Bluff.  But if Mom’s still in the hospital then I need to get to Reno which is of course the opposite direction.  I’ll just have to wait until Friday night or Saturday morning to see how the weather is.  And it also depends on if Mom’s still in the hospital or not.

So I’ll be home for at least a week.  Then we’ll see how everything’s going.  I haven’t really been home for about two years.  We went up in September for Mom’s retirement party but that was a super quick up/back.  Depends on how she’s feeling how much I’ll get out and about.

I’m sure I’ll come back with a carload of crap.  Hopefully I can find the box of Trixie Belden books.  Otherwise there’s not a ton of stuff I want.  But she’ll think I want a lot I don’t.  Easier to take it and send it to good will rather than argue.  Oh I do want some of my grandmothers’ liqueur glasses.  I’ll have to figure out how to snag some of those.

At what age did you?
1. Fell in love - 16
2. Got a MySpace account – Hmm 38ish?  There’s still really nothing on it.
3. Got drunk – Must have been 15 or so.
4. Smoked weed -- 13
5. Got french kissed -- 16
6. Went to the hospital for surgery – I had a c-section when I was 29.  That’s it.
7. Got your heart broken badly – 16 – that one took a while to get over.  About oh 23 years before I was really done with it.
8. Lost a pet –Besides fish and hamsters.  I think I was about 13 when Mr. Cat died.
9. Got arrested -- Never.
10. Smoked a cigarette -- 17
11. Broke a bone – I think I was 12.  My horse threw me and I cracked my collar bone.  I don’t think I’ve actually ever completely broken anything just a few fractures..
12. Went to a concert – Must have been Tommy Tutone and I would have been 19?  It was at the Veterans Hall.
13. Got your own cell phone – I was 30.
14. Got a speeding ticket – 17.  Right before I left for a year as an exchange student.  My parents were not happy.
15. Run away – Never.  Where would I go?
16. Sneaked out of the house – Since my curfew was generally 8PMish.  Snuck out all the time. Here’s a hint.  If you get caught sneaking back in at 4:30 AM, and your hair is wet.  It’s very difficult to come up with a plausible story.
17. Pierced other than your ears – Never – ouch.
18. Got a tattoo – I’m just not a tattoo fan.  My godfather had one that had gotten infected and it was this huge ugly scar on his arm.  Never made me want to get one.
19. Bought porn – Probably late 30ish..
22. Totaled a car – 20.  But it was totally drivable and I did drive it around for quite some time before the insurance came through.  And I wasn’t at fault. A 78 Ford Fairmont is pratically indestructable.
23. Moved out of your parents' house – 20, when I finished Jr. College and moved to the Bay Area.
24. How old are you now? -- 41
25. Had a kid – 29.  Just the one.
26. Got married – 23 – wow that was a really bad idea.

For some reason I keep thinking today is Friday.  This is really going to make the rest of the week longer.

Mom comes Saturday.  Need to think of something to do for entertainment on Sunday before we pick up M.  Zoo maybe.  My passes expire the end of the month might as well get some use out of them.  I think I only used it the one time.

Trying to figure out which insurance plan to sign up for.  The HSA looks apealling but with a $5k deductible if something were to happen big I'd be hosed.  But overall it's significantly cheaper.  Need to do a little more research.

So G has talked me into doing the 13K over Labor Day next year now that I've survived the 5K.  I'll claim she talked me into it but honestly it's a good excuse to get up off the couch and do something.  Plus hopefully eventually get back to my normal weight.  I did 20 mins on the treadmill to start.  I don't want to do too much too fast.  M went with me to the gym.  Makes her think she's cool.

M had her first school dance last night.  I think she had a little fun.  None of her close friends went so I think she felt a little alone.  She's also running for a spot on ASB.  They voted yesterday but don't find out until Tuesday.  I really really hope she gets a spot. She's really tried so hard.  There are 10 spots and 25 running so she has ok odds.  She's always run for something but never won.  I give her credit because she keeps trying.

Need to get the house cleaned.  Mom comes in a week.  And she's staying a week.  I may die.  Luckily may Aunt comes a few days later so I'll survive.  I'm still hoping I get the week off.  It looks like it's going to work out.  It of course all depends on if the boss actually takes his vacation.  And since he's known for last minute cancellations I can't count on it until he's actually in the air on Thursday.
